The Transport Workers Union of America has 165,000 members nationwide – including thousands of school bus workers. We are the largest transportation union in Texas, with members working for American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, the Houston METRO, several school districts, and many other public and private transportation operators.
When you join the TWU, you become part of a strong, proud, and highly effective organization with the staff and resources to help you improve your economic security and quality of life. You – the members – elect local officers to represent you before management, and we assist them in succeeding. The TWU secures better wages, safer working conditions, improved scheduling, enhanced retirement plans – and more.
There is strength in numbers. And the TWU has 89 locals in cities and towns across America, including New York City, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Detroit, Columbus, Ohio, and Omaha, Nebraska.
In Texas, we have nearly two dozen locals with tens of thousands of members. Our flagship transit local is TWU Local 260, whose members operate and maintain Houston’s METRO bus and light rail system, which carries 77 million riders annually.
